Bandung Interesting Place

Bandung was found because of the search for resourches for the coffee garden by Abraham Van Riebeek on 1712. But fast development occured when capital city Bandung moved from Krapyak (now Dayeuh Kolot) to the center of Bandung now. This movement happened in 1810 after road development has finished. The road was connecting Batavia and Bandung through Bogor and Cianjur.

This capital movements became the development point of Bandung history because it was the time when Bandung transforms from village into town.
As Bandung growth more significantly, marked by many facilities built to support live and prosperity in Bandung such as Gedung Sate, Geology Museum (opened on 16 May 1929), Pos Indonesia Museum (opened 1931) etc.

Now Bandung is becoming a beautiful city just like you see. a beautiful city with fresh air and paradise for a lot of things, whether it's for shopping, food or maybe for some people who like to enjoy the sunset.
  • Gedung Sate :
Gedung Sate as the most beautiful building in Indonesia, declared on 1952. This building can be compared as Merdeka palace even as White House of Bandung. Build on 1920 and until now still use for the governance central building of West Java Province.

Gedung Sate which is identical with the architecture such as tusuk sate ornamen on the central tower, have been become landmark of Bandung. This landmark are known not only by the west Java society but by the Indonesian people. Gedung Sate consist of 4 floor, in the first floor there is a reception hall, this hall usually use for Sundanese musical concert when ceremony held. Second floor consist west and east wing that connected by the corridor.

To reach Gedung Sate building you can use public transportation or personal car. to visit you don't need specialized license. You just have to be nice and dont disturb people work because daily this building used for the government office.

  • Braga Walk
It is not complete if you're visiting Bandung but dont go to Braga street. The Braga street htat is located from north to the south of Bandung city center is like alive museum, with its inheritances such as buildings with attractive ancient architect style like romantic-classic, art deco, Indo-European, neo classic, mixed style to modern architect style that make you experienced the past, commemorate things that happened in the last decades.

Do you now that Braga was taken from Sundanese language "ngabaraga" which means being in certain style of showing up? The name of Braga itself was used for the first time in 1810 but it was popularized by Tonil Braga in 1887 and in that time it became more popular. The popularity was not only in Indonesia but also in other countries as the only place full of life style, from there the term "Paris Van Java" was rose.

Braga which now is really beautiful, before having modernization with Out Holland Architect Style, was dusty in the dry season and muddy in the rain season. Braga street was only crossed by horse drawn cart, in Indonesia it is called pedati, which brought agricultural product to coffee warehouse called Koffie Pakhuis. Because of that Braga street was called Karrenweg of Pedatiweg.

In the side walk of Braga street you can get antiques, book stores, even the biggest painting center. As the painting center, Braga street looks more artistic and beautiful with various painting hang in front of the stores,

  • Jalan Dago
Visiting Bandung is not complete if you didnt visit Jalan Dago. The nuance of this street which has the concept of "Garden City" offer atmosphere of European style. Long time ago Jl Dago used to be elite residence of Dutch colonialism era and also offers much soothing air and the nature's beauty. Along with time, nowdays Jl. Dago is becoming business center and hangout place for youth. You can enjoy a complete shopping facilities such as Dago Plaza, Tamani Cafe, Elvira & Kalaam Book store, Superindo, Aquarius, Edward Farred, Blossom, House of Donatello, Dago tea house, Doyan ikan (DOI) and complete with hotels such as Holiday inn, Jayakarta, Sheraton, Geulis, Royal Dago, Bukit Juanda etc.

In this area you will find a lot of big trees which has purpose for shelter, especially when broad day light. It also complete with sidewalk as facility for the pedestrian to walk along this street.
  • Sri Baduga Museum
Sri Baduga Museum at Jl. BKR 185 keeps the natural material, cultural material and in 2005 already gather 5893 collections from 10 classification, in this museum there are 3 floors which will provide you with history and culture of West Java on the first floor there are natural material such as rocks, animals, plants and the pletosen map. On the second floor there are profil of Sundanese ancient and its culture. The third floor are designed to look just like a regular house with its living room, bedroom even kitchen.

The museum open monday to friday from 8 am to 3 pm and saturday to sunday from 8 am to 2 pm, This museum has auditorium, seminar room, exhibition room, library canteen, public telephone, and parking lot.
  • Geology Museum
Geology museum at Jl. Dipenogoro no 57, was original built on mey 16, 1928. This museum renovated with founding from JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) and reopened for public officially by Megawati Soekarnoputri on 23 of August 2000. As a historical monument, this museum considered as a national treasures and under protection of the government.

When first build Museum Geology considered as a laboratory and storage place for keeping the geological research and mining product from many regions in Indonesia. The museum the became education and information center for geological science and tourist object.

Now The Geology Museum become:
  • Education facilities outside of school as a place to know about earth and its related conservation
  • Place for basic research before doing field research.
